Amid police crackdown on Congress protesters, Rahul Gandhi stands tall with party leaders | VIDEO

Clothed all in black, Congress leaders hit the streets on Friday to protest against unemployment, price rise, and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) hike on essential items. Soon, police started detaining Congress leaders over the mass protest. Amidst all this, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was seen standing in solidarity with his party leaders.

A video shows Delhi Police trying to detain Congress leader Deepender S Hooda while he was protesting at Vijay Chowk in the national capital. Rahul Gandhi can be seen holding on to Deepender S Hooda as Congress workers continue to chant against the government.

Congress leader Deepender S Hooda called the detention of party leaders as “attack on democracy of the country”.

“On Agneepath, unemployment, inflation, we are not allowed to speak in Parliament, nor on the road. The government should tell us where can we speak? This attack is not on Deepender Hooda, but on the democracy of the country.”

The Delhi Police detained more than 200 Congress protesters, including 50 Members of Parliament, from Lutyens’ Delhi on Friday.

The detained leaders also include Members of the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
