At least eight people were killed and 18 were injured in a blast at a residential area in Afghanistan’s Kabul on Friday. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the blast that targetted the ethnic group Hazaras.

The IS allegedly targetted a group of women and children who gathered at the mosque for prayers, according to Afghan local media.

Two explosions were reported from western Kabul targetting the ethnic group Hazaras, the largest religious minority in Afghanistan. According to Ariana news, one explosion occurred at Imam Baqir Mosque, a women’s mosque in the Sar-e Kariz area.

However, the militant group said in a statement that 20 people were killed and injured in an attack launched in western Kabul, according to a Reuters report.
