Australia were asked to retake their first penalty stroke in the shootout as the officials had forgotten to switch on the shot clock. Neither India nor Australia protested against the decision. And Australia went on to win the shootout 3-0 and progress to the final.

India captain Savita Punia responded to the controversy while speaking to Sony Sports after the semi-final defeat.

It was a very close match and sometimes these decisions don’t go your way, it becomes tougher. The first stroke was asked to be retaken. It was tough for us but, at the same time, these are part of the game. We have to move on,” Captain Savita said.
