Rishabh Pant flaunted his improvement with the gloves while keeping to spinners as he took a sensational catch to dismiss Shreyas Iyer in a crunch IPL 2022 match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 28.

Rishabh Pant was once kept away from keeping duties for home Tests but he has shown incredible improvement behind the sticks for India ever since he returned to the side during the famous Australia tour in 2020-21. The confident wicketkeeper was on top of his game on Thursday, staying low to take a ‘stunning catch’ in Kuldeep Yadav’s 3rd over.

Rishabh Pant caught a delivery that nicked the bottom edge of Shreyas Iyer’s bat by wonderfully staying low. Kuldeep Yadav tossed it wide and Iyer went for the cut but all he could manage was a faint edge. Pant, who stayed low, caught it with one hand and appealed with confidence.

The on-field umpires were not sure and referred to the third umpire even as Shreyas Iyer was waiting for the final decision. However, Pant seemed super confident.

The replays showed that Pant had taken a clean catch following which Iyer started to walk back to the dressing room. It was a crucial wicket for the Delhi Capitals as the KKR captain was looking to cut loose after collecting 42 off 37 deliveries.

Pant was in action soon after as he stumped Andre Russell for 0 in the same over from Kuldeep. The left-arm wrist-spinner came around the wicket to the big-hitting West Indies batter. Russell skipped down the track and he missed the ball completely.

The rub of green went Pant’s way as the Delhi captain was not able to take the ball cleanly but he managed to deflect the ball onto the stumps.

“It was an stunning catch but a bit of luck has helped Pant with that stumping,” Kevin Pietersen who was on-air said, describing the dramatic turn of events.

A section of fans were awestruck by Pant’s catch and lauded the young wicketkeeper-batter for his improved ability to keep wickets for the spinners.

Delhi Capitals described the effort from Pant, making the ‘Spiderman’ reference to laud their captain.

Kuldeep Yadav, who was benched by KKR last season, has been on fire. After decimating Kolkata Knight Riders in their reverse fixture, the left-arm wrist-spinner was at it again.

He removed Baba Indrajith and Sunil Narine off successive deliveries in his first over before getting Iyer and Narine in his 3rd over.

Kuldeep took his tally to 18 wickets, going level with his wrist-spin partner Yuzvendra Chahal who has been in stunning form for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022.
