Doorbell camera films stranger as she saves family’s lives
Doorbell camera footage has captured the moment a stranger alerted a family that their home was on fire.
US couple Josh Ellis and Brittany Downing were unaware that their garage was engulfed in flames, when Moss Strong knocked on their door to alert them to the blaze.
“I’m so sorry, your garage is on fire,” Strong said in the remarkable doorbell footage.
Strong is being praised for saving the lives of the family she didn’t know.
Ellis said he was unaware of the fire until the knock at the door.
“The kids were sleeping. Me and her were actually laying down in bed watching Stranger Things,” he said.
“My fiance looked at me and said ‘what’s that smell?’.
“That’s when the door knocked … simultaneously.
“Because we smelt that and someone knocked, we instantly knew … panic mode, something’s going on because someone’s beating down the door.”
Strong spotted the fire less than two kilometres away while driving and followed the flames to the house.
“It was a really surreal sight,” she said.
“When I got there I was really surprised that no one was outside yet.
“My first thought was ‘what the heck?’ then I panicked and ran out of my car.
Strong said she leapt into action and asked her roommate to call 911.
Ellis, Downing and their eight children who were home at the time safely escaped the house.
Downing said she acted on instinct and ran down the hallway to her children.
“I knew the kids were sleeping so I went running down the hallway, banging both of my first,” she said.
“I said ‘get out of the house, the house is on fire, the house is on fire!”.
Ellis and Downing said they are grateful for the support they received after the incident.
