KCR ropes in I-PAC to lead 2023 campaign amid buzz over Prashant Kishor joining Congress
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has roped in consultancy firm Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), associated with political strategist Prashant Kishor, to lead its poll campaign for the 2023 state elections.
Prashant Kishor has been holding meetings with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The poll strategist reached Hyderabad on Saturday morning and stayed at the Chief Minister’s official residence overnight.
According to sources, I-PAC’s Rishi Singh is in Hyderabad to handle the TRS campaign. The signing of contract between TRS and I-PAC is significant as Congress remains a key Opposition in Telangana.
Even though PK officially ended his relations with I-PAC a year ago, Congress is wary of any association I-PAC has with parties that are in direct competition with Congress, such as TRS in Telangana, YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh and Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
After defeats in Uttar Pradesh and other state elections, Congress approached Prashant Kishor, who then presented “a detailed blueprint” for the 2024 polls to party president Sonia Gandhi. An eight-member committee, set up by Sonia Gandhi, then submitted its report by way of recommendation.
It is now up to the Congress president to take the final call on the recommendations and initiate the changes in organisation as desired. There are reports that PK may join the party soon.
